Helldivers 2 is an online co-op PvE shooter, set in the second galactic war. What really makes the game worthwhile is just how immersive it is. For example, all your traditional video game powers or abilities are replaced by ‘stratagems’ in Helldivers. Instead of an ability you use, you instead call down an artillery strike or support weapon to carry around. The objectives are also dynamic, changing with each planet or faction you’re fighting. Sometimes you could be finding and destroying outposts or protecting citizens whilst they evacuate. Leaning into the Galactic War mechanic, each objective is shared by all players across the game, and every victory and defeat contributes to the war efforts, giving a fraction of a percentage towards victory over a planet.
The whole feel of the game is very fresh and unique, it really feels like I’m playing a part of a wider, larger team. Along with the dynamics of the missions and maps, there is a wide variety of enemies all with their own tactics, strengths and counters, all spanned across three different factions.
Helldivers is a great co-op shooter, and the premise and mechanics are all super unique and immersive, making it brilliant to play together with friends.
